For a bibliophile, there is nothing like the appearance of a cardboard shipment on the doorstep.  My father-in-law was kind enough to hunt down a copy of Francis Watson’s Paul and the Hermeneutics of Faith.  Kevin Vanhoozer’s The Drama of Doctrine is required reading for the next meeting of the Society for the Advancement of Ecclesial Theology, which I will be attending as a guest.   These two books will be added to a number of other materials I am reading, from Josephus’ Antiquities of the Jews to Jim Belcher’s Deep Church: A Third Way Beyond Emerging and Traditional.  Many exciting pages await…

  1. Watson’s Paul and the Hermeneutics of Faith is fantastic. I love his model of a “three way conversation” that brings Paul out of monologue into dialogue.
